Build A Bridge – Nintendo Switch | Review

Another day another mobile port makes its way to switch.

Build A Bridge is a port of the mobile game of the same name. The game is basically bridge constructor with additional challenges and 3D visuals added.

I find it difficult to describe the gameplay, other than “it does exactly what it says on the tin”. The game is all about weight distribution and structural integrity just like the game that inspired it, the main difference here is this title offers a bunch of challenges every level as well as a grading system (up to 3 stars), the other difference is it doesn’t play it quite as straight with you facing challenges like try to jump X number of metres or build a bridge that allows a ship to pass beneath.

The switch to 3D visually doesn’t really add anything to the formula, but the game does look nice considering its simple premise. There are also a large number of levels available to tackle, and if you are someone that likes to perfect every level and beat ever challenge this is going to keep you busy for quite some time. The game is a perfect fit for the switch as it’s really easy to play with touch screen controls and each level is a bite-sized challenge that is really easy to pick up and play or keep you busy on commutes. The option is there to use the JoyCons to play but there are so many buttons that it just makes sense to ignore that option altogether and just play in handheld mode. There are also 2 other environments you can access that I’m not entirely sure were in the mobile version (I never saw them back when I played it) that again provide a few variations to the standard “connect side A to B” gameplay.

Final Impressions

Ultimately, you could play the same game for free on your phone with the usual free to play cooldown mechanics trying to fleece you every so often. It does the whole bridge-building thing well, and if you are someone that liked bridge constructor you are sure to have fun with this title.
