Shadow Of The Loot Box – PS4 | Review

Ratalaika Games strikes again with another title that seems to be aimed at the rabid trophy hunters out there.

Shadow Of The Loot Box is a shooter in the style of classics like Doom with a dose of Minecraft style visuals. The game itself seems to be a satire of modern gaming, taking jabs at games in early access, microtransactions, and obviously Lootcrate.

Before I say much more about this game I need to let everyone know that it took me an hour and a half to finish, and platinum, so don’t be surprised if this review isn’t exactly long.

I personally had a lot of issues with this Shadow Of The Loot Box if I’m being honest. First of all the satire that is on display with unfinished levels and deliberately adding glitches is not funny. There are basically two enemies in the game that are reused over and over. The Lootcrate mechanic is just annoying as you need the experience to unlock simple abilities and you only get experience from crates, not actions like beating the boring enemies the game randomly chucks at you.

The shooting itself can be annoying as more often than not I found myself shooting an enemy who would then chase me as I fired at it while backtracking, over and over and over again.

The game also gives you the odd random fetch quest that takes a few minutes to complete, none of this actually takes any effort or feels rewarding in any way.

I’m going to be brutally honest here and say that Shadow Of The Loot Box is another in a long line of “buy a platinum” titles. The only people that will be interested in it are people that want to inflate their platinum totals. So, if that’s what you like then you will love Shadow Of The Loot Box. As I mentioned at the start of this review, it takes an hour and a half to complete and offers no challenge whatsoever.

Final Impressions

If you can’t tell from my review above I’ll just reaffirm, I did not like this Shadow Of The Loot Box. It’s boring, not funny, and offers nothing of value, other than a cheap platinum.
